Daikin Rebel DAHA Rooftop Air Handler

Case Study

The Problem

Abington Heights School District needed a rooftop air handler that could hit ASHRAE 90.1 energy recovery requirements and carry state-of-the-art controls — without putting maintenance staff on ladders every time a filter needed changing, and without paying custom-AHU money to get there.

The Solution

TriState HVAC specified the Daikin Rebel Applied Air Handling Unit, Model DAHA, for Abington Heights School District.

The DAHA is a single-tier rooftop unit with a dedicated Energy Recovery Wheel segment, so it meets ASHRAE 90.1 energy recovery requirements without a custom build. It’s built to standard AHU casing strength, leakage, and insulation ratings, which puts it on par with a two-tier unit in the areas that matter most. It also costs less than a two-tier unit to buy and install.

The Result

Abington Heights School District got a single-tier unit that matches two-tier casing strength and ratings, for less than a two-tier unit costs. That means code-compliant energy recovery, no ladders for routine maintenance, and a lower price than the two-tier units it replaced.

No Ladder

Ladder-Free Design

DAHA units stand under 7 feet tall, so maintenance staff can change filters and service the unit without a ladder. Taller, stacked units from other manufacturers can’t say the same.

Weight Savings

Weight Savings

With a single supply air tunnel, DAHA units are up to 5,000 lbs lighter, reducing structural steel requirements on roofs.

Shipping

One-Piece Shipping

Unlike two-tier units that ship in multiple pieces, DAHA units ship as a single unit, preventing future leak points.

Pipe

Internal Pipe Portals

Hydronic piping connections are made inside the unit, avoiding external pipe chases and extra roof curbs.

Fan Array

Standard ECM Fan Arrays

Equipped with ECM fan arrays for resilience and simplicity, avoiding single points of failure.

Controls

Factory-Mounted Controls

Each unit includes pre-installed controls for fan speed and dampers, with options for additional components, ensuring readiness before shipping.

Bottom Line

Code-compliant energy recovery, zero maintenance requiring a ladder, and lower pricing than two-tier units.
